CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Erica Eisdorfer, manager of the Bull's Head Bookshop at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is one of 10 finalists in an “American Idol” –style competition for authors sponsored by Amazon.com.

The Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award (ABNA) is co-sponsored by Penguin Group (USA) and HP. Nearly 5,000 novels were entered.

Eisdorfer's novel, “The Wet Nurse’s Tale,” is a period piece about a street-smart wet nurse who manipulates her employer's foibles to get what she wants.

The public can vote for their favorite among the 10 ABNA finalists on www.amazon.com/abna through March 31.

The winner will be named in New York City on April 7, 2008 and will be awarded a publishing contract with Penguin Group (USA).
