CARRBORO, N.C. — The Town of Carrboro is requiring all employees to be vaccinated by Sept. 1.

In June, Carrboro offered $100 incentives for employees who showed proof of their vaccine status.

According to officials, more than 70% of Town employees are fully vaccinated. Of Carrboro's 153 eligible employees, 44 are either unvaccinated or are not participating in the incentive program, the town said.

Masks are already required for all visitors and staff at indoor town facilities due to the highly-contagious Delta variant and a spike in COVID-19 case, but effective Wednesday, masks will also be required in indoor public spaces in Orange County.

Durham County has also reinstated a mask mandate.

WRAL News has reached out to the Town of Carrboro to learn what choices employees will have who choose not to get vaccinated.
