CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The first double-launch roller coaster will come to the Carolinas in spring 2019, Carowinds announced Thursday.

The Copperhead Strike, which is more than half a mile long, follows a chase of racing getaway cars in farmland.

Three 16-passenger trains are inspired by 1930s coupes. Riders will experience a Jojo roll and multiple loops and inversions. The coaster includes speedy twists, turns and flips.

The coaster is part of the park’s Blue Ridge Junction, a new area inspired by the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Current season pass holders are eligible to purchase 2019 season passes now.

Carowinds, in Charlotte, sits on 400 acres and has more than 60 rides, shows and attractions.
