SANFORD, N.C. — An automobile wreck led to a house fire in Sanford on Monday, authorities said.

Two cars collided at the intersection of Charlotte Avenue and 7th Street just before 2 p.m., police said. One of the cars involved in the wreck careened off the road and into a house, shearing the gas line and igniting a fire.

Both the car and the house, at 423 Charlotte Ave., burned before firefighters put out the blaze and gas company representatives were able to turn off the gas to the house.

Authorities have not identified any of the people involved. One person was taken to the hospital, but it was not clear whether that person was in the car or the house when the fire started.
