Car hydroplanes, crashes into utility pole on New Bern Avenue in Raleigh

A car was badly damaged when it struck a pole on New Bern Avenue near Trawick Road early Monday morning.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A car was badly damaged when it struck a pole on New Bern Avenue near Trawick Road early Monday morning.

The crash occurred before 4:30 a.m. There was heavy damage to the passenger's side, and the utility pole was split in half.

It was raining heavily at the time of the crash, and officials said the car hydroplaned.

The driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
