— An 8-year-old boy was hit by a car while trick-or-treating just outside the Fayetteville city limits Friday evening, police said.

The wreck occurred at Shaw Road and Scrub Oak Court, off Murchison Road, shortly before 7 p.m., police said.

Tyrell Ellison was with two groups of trick-or-treaters along Shaw Road when police said he ran into traffic to cross the street. Another child tried to stop him but was unable to.

Tyrell had a broken leg. He was airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill and was in stable condition.

He lives several streets from the accident site.

The driver was not injured. Officers said no charges are expected.
