Car crashes into ravine near Clayton, driver arrested mile away from scene
A rental car crashed over a guardrail and disappeared into the woods on US Highway 70 near Clayton early Sunday morning, according to officials.
Posted — UpdatedWhen authorities arrived at the scene, they found the car was empty. Crews searched the area for around an hour before locating the passengers and driver over a mile away.
The car was heavily damaged and was challenging to pull out of the woods, according to officials.
Authorities took the driver of the vehicle back to the scene of the crash, then placed him in handcuffs. He was taken to the Johnston County Jail on Sunday morning. Officials have not yet released what he has been charged with.
Eastbound traffic was stopped on US-70 twice while crews searched the area and cleared the wreck.
