RALEIGH, N.C. — A weekend closure on Capital Boulevard is scheduled to improve traffic Monday.

Friday at 9 p.m., contractors will close southbound Capital Boulevard and Johnson Street near the Peace Street bridge.

Detour signs will be posted through the weekend.

If it all goes to plan, the new bridge over Peace Street will be open in time for the Monday commute.

Project leaders said this part of the project is a month ahead of schedule.

Work is ongoing on the ramp from Wade Avenue to northbound Capital Boulevard.

That new ramp is expected to open in April.
