CARY, N.C. — A Knightdale man broke into Cary High School and stole money from a candy machine, police said.

Investigators said Matthew Moses, 29, was spotted on a surveillance camera by the school's alarm-monitoring company Saturday night. The suspect tried to make a run for it when police arrived, but officers caught him after a short chase.

Cary police were also investigating a similar case where two burglars were caught breaking into vending machines at Green Hope High School and Cary Tennis Park.

Officers said they do not believe the cases are connected.
