Candidate filing period opens for 2015 elections

The candidate filing period for 2015 municipal elections opened Monday morning and will run through noon July 17.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The candidate filing period for 2015 municipal elections opened Monday morning and will run through noon July 17.

Municipal elections will be held in Raleigh and Cary on Oct. 6, and other area towns will have their elections on Nov. 3.

In Raleigh, voters will cast ballots for mayor and all seven City Council seats. In both Durham and Cary, the mayor's post and three council seats will be up for grabs. Mayors will also be elected in Apex, Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Clayton, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Hillsborough, Knightdale, Pittsboro, Rolesville, Selma, Siler City, Smithfield and Wendell.

Council seats are on the ballot for almost every municipality from Apex to Zebulon, and four seats on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Board of Education also are up for grabs.
