DURHAM, N.C. — Police said Thursday that a man whose body was found in a car at a Durham park Wednesday morning had been shot.

A group of day campers arrived at Leigh Farm Park, near the Durham-Chapel Hill line, at about 8:30 a.m. and found a car on the side of the road with someone inside. They called police, and first responders determined the person was dead.

The man has been identified as 29-year-old Alvin Norwood Jr. Police said they didn't know how long he had been inside the car.

"Based on the preliminary investigation, investigators do not believe there is a threat to the immediate area," police said in a news release.

No other details were released.
