Camper's body found in Falls Lake

Two fishermen found the man's body a few feet from the shoreline near the Shinleaf Recreation Area, off of New Light Road near Wake Forest around 2 p.m., Sheriff Donnie Harrison said.

WAKE FOREST, N.C. — The Wake County Sheriff's Office is investigating after the body of a camper was found in Falls Lake on Thursday afternoon. 

Two fishermen found the man's body a few feet from the shoreline near the Shinleaf Recreation Area, off of New Light Road near Wake Forest around 2 p.m., Sheriff Donnie Harrison said.

Authorities said the man, identified as John Charles Holy, 28, of Raleigh, had been camping in the area on Wednesday night. 

Preliminary reports show the cause of death was drowning, according to Phyllis Stevens, a spokeswoman for the Wake County Sheriff's Office. 

The incident remains under investigation.
