Calendar of NC icons will be unveiled Wednesday

A calendar honoring North Carolina icons will be unveiled at a gala Wednesday.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A calendar honoring North Carolina icons will be unveiled at a gala Wednesday.

The calendar, "The Heritage Calendar: Celebrating the African-American Experience," is sponsored by AT&T North Carolina and includes 16 honorees who contributed to the lives of African-Americans in North Carolina, a spokeswoman for MMI Public Relations said.

Honorees include the Greensboro Four, former Gov. James Hunt, former UNC basketball coach Dean Smith and former Raleigh mayor Tom Bradshaw.

The gala will take place at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. Wednesday. 

WRAL is also sponsoring the Heritage Calendar.
