RALEIGH, N.C. — Virginia authorities said Monday that they have identified human remains found last week near the North Carolina state line as those of a missing woman whose former boyfriend was subsequently arrested in Raleigh.

Amy Renee Fabian, 43, was reported missing on May 24 after Matthew T. Broyles, 29, of Powhatan, was found dead in her home west of Richmond, Va. Her remains and a stolen pickup truck were found Thursday in a wooded area outside South Hill, Va.

Fabian's ex-boyfriend, George William Knisley, 41, of Westminster, Md., has been charged in Broyles' death, and authorities said more charges are pending.

Knisley was arrested in Raleigh on May 25 following a carjacking and police chase that ended on Capital Boulevard just north of Interstate 440, authorities said.

He is suspected of stealing several vehicles between Maryland and Raleigh, and a Honda Civic he stole from a woman in South Hill was recovered in Raleigh, authorities said.

Last Monday, Knisley escaped a Wake County deputy who was transferring him from the Public Safety Center in downtown Raleigh to the Wake County Detention Center on Hammond Road.

John Martinez Jr. said he saw a man in an orange jumpsuit running down the street with a uniformed officer in pursuit. The deputy was falling farther behind in the chase, and Martinez said his wife called out to see if the deputy needed help.

"He said yes, so I handed my phone to my wife and took off," he told WRAL News, adding that he caught up to the escapee near Dawson Street and tackled him.

"I took him down to the ground, pinned his arms around his back," Martinez said. "He begged me to let me go. [He] said, 'Let me go. Let me go. I am wanted for murder,' and I was like, there is no chance."

Another man came along and helped Martinez get the handcuffs back on the escapee before deputies arrived.

Knisley remains in the Wake County jail awaiting extradition to Virginia.
