RALEIGH, N.C. — A busy Raleigh intersection is still closed Saturday morning after a water main break on Friday caused the road to be unstable.

The 3600 block of Wake Forest Road is closed in both directions between St. Albans Drive and Colby Drive, near I-440.

City officials initially expected it to reopen by 6 a.m., but that was pushed back to noon – and has now been shifted again to 3 p.m., after officials say rain delayed repairing the water main.

The water break caused significant damage, according to officials, and crews will need to dig underground to repair the road.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area. Detours are also in place.

Customers in the area are not expected to experience an interruption of water service.

Detour
  • Traffic traveling south on Wake Forest Road will turn right onto Colby Drive, left onto Hardimont, then left onto St Albans Dr, then back onto Wake Forest Road.
  • Traffic traveling north on Wake Forest Road will turn right onto St Albans Dr, left onto New Hope Church Road, then back onto Wake Forest Road.
The city of Raleigh provided this map of the detour around Wake Forest Road near Dresser Court.
