A standoff began Tuesday night in Butner at the Edgewood Bridge Apartments, where a man was barricaded inside an apartment for eight hours before being taken into custody. 

Now to that breaking news in Granville County where there is a nine hour standoff between law enforcement and a man barricaded inside an apartment building. Witnesses say officers have had West be street in Butner blocked off since before nine pm. The w breaking news tracker has been there throughout the night as police try to safely reach the man inside Eric Miller joins us live from outside the apartment complex, Eric, what a long night this has been for everyone involved rene it absolutely has. But just in the last five minutes, we've started to see some movement out here, some of the deputies, some of the FBI agents who are here starting to pull back. We've even seen them loading up one of those police robots that they were using out here as part of this standoff. You take a look at some of the video from this scene earlier. You can get a sense of just how massive an operation this was both armed and armored folks out here trying to bring this to a peaceful conclusion. The Granville China County Sheriff's Office confirmed this started right around 8 30. That's when they got a 911 call from someone at the Edgewood Bridge apartment saying that a gunshot, a bullet had been fired through their wall and had come to their apartment. Now, earlier this evening, I had a chance to speak with a woman. She says she's the sister of the man who was inside that apartment. She says when that gun was fired, her brother was actually trying to bathe his kids, his three year old and only avoided getting hit by that bullet by a matter of feet. Take a listen to this sound. So he bend down to, you know, uh and put her a towel around her and he heard something go po when he heard he reached and grabbed her, he grabbed the boys, they both, all of them went to the floor, he scooped them into the bedroom and he looks up and right where he was standing, there's a bullet hole. Yes, terrifying moments there. But we do have some very good news. Just had a member of the Granville County Sheriff's office walk up to me here literally in the last couple of seconds while we were listening to that sound and tell me that this standoff is over. They say they do have the man who was barricaded inside the apartment since 8 30. Now in custody, they say they were able to take him in. And thankfully amazingly tonight, especially when you listen to that sound, we did not have any injuries now, the woman who was speaking there, she only wanted to be identified as MS Davis. But she said that we've been building up to this day literally for months. She said her brother has had issues with this man making threats, showing weapons for months now and wished that it hadn't gotten to this point. But again, this standoff does seem to have come to a conclusion. The sheriff's office confirming the man is now in custody.

Good morning. I'm meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner. It's a bit of a wet morning out there. In some places, we have some drizzle showing up out there on the cameras, but take a look at the 5000 radars. Not really anything showing up on the radar. Radar is calibrated for raindrops which are a lot bigger than particles of drizzle. So not seeing a whole lot out there, take a look at future cast and you can see gray skies with us all during the morning commute. And then as we get into the afternoon, there may be a few breaks in the cloud on and off, especially in the western half of the viewing area. And there could be an isolated shower, quick, little Sprinkle, but it remains unsettled with that northeasterly wind and take a look at downtown. This is a look at downtown Raleigh Para guys this morning, drizzly conditions. Not everybody is seeing this much drizzle, but we are seeing it in some parts of the viewing area. Temperatures will be in the sixties this morning, we'll hit 70 around lunch time and we're going to see 77 in Raleigh 76 Durham, 79. In Fayetteville. So it remains a cool day today. With that north easterly flow, our normal high is 84. So today is well below that. But then we climb on up into the eighties Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a little bit more sunshine. We do have a front that comes in on Saturday that could bring us an isolated storm. But right now it doesn't look like a wash out by any means. I think things are going to look fine if you have outdoor plans on Saturday, minus just a quick chance in the afternoon of a, of a straight thunderstorm. Our dew points are up there. We're in the sixties now all the way through Saturday, but we get a nice break on Sunday when that dew point drops into the seventies. Our temperature outlook into June is actually looking great. The fifth is the ninth. We still have the potential for below normal temperatures. So it's gonna be, it's gonna be a great thing to see. Our temperatures warm up a little bit into Saturday, but we're still going to get a break from seeing a whole lot of intense heat at least as we start June, which again as a nice treat. We are looking at some unsettled conditions, of course, through the rest of this weekend into the weekend, but we may dry out a little bit more next week.

Snakes are coming back into some people's yards. Falyn Owens with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission explains a few ways you can coexist with snakes.

<p>What snakes are mostly looking for is, um, places to hide. Snakes need sheltered places where they can feel safe and um, around homes. That's most when you eat all um, dense like I and really thick leaf litter, um, or, or piles of rocks or logs or sticks. Uh So sort of natural hiding places, um, are going to be attractive to snakes and uh give them a, a place to live. Um, snakes are also looking for food and a lot of the snake that most people are worried about eat rodents and the same types of natural hiding places that snakes like to hide in also make great places for rodents as well. So, um, when somebody's looking for ways to keep snakes away from their yard, reducing those, those natural hiding places are just gonna basically make snakes less comfortable and prey less comfortable. So they're not as likely to be around. Um, we do have almost 40 different species of snakes in North Carolina and many of those are normally found in neighborhoods and residential areas. So, um, doesn't necessarily mean you're going to see more snakes because snakes ring around people regardless. But on the rational level, I can tell people that snakes are not interested in fighting human beings. Um even venomous snakes, they don't want to use their venom on anything that they can't actually consume and then is a limited resource. So they don't want to bite, inject them into something that they can't eat because that might mean that they can't actually do prey and have a meal for the next several days. Um, so snakes don't want to bite people relocations. Uh Some there are people who will do snake relocations, but snakes tend to not do very well when they're relocated. So, um the best way that, that we can um recommend people deal with a snake that they've seen in their yard is basically just to either wait because you know, the, the snake is gonna move on, they, they don't stay in one place for very long. So if somebody sees a snake in their yard and they really don't want it there, um We do recommend just, just wait for a little bit because if you check back in a couple of hours, it's likely to have moved on completely on all on its own without any help from people, especially if you scared it and kind of disturbed it a little bit. It's gonna, it's gonna go, wanna go somewhere else. Um Especially around the house. If somebody has a snake in a place where they cannot let it, um just go on its own time, uh, like on the front porch, like right next to the front door or something like that. Um, a great way to get a snake to move a little bit faster is to spray it with a water hose. Uh, because you can do that at a safe distance. It doesn't harm the snake, but it certainly gets the snake very interested in finding someplace else to be very quickly. So that can be an excellent humane and effective way to get a snake to move somewhere else, um, without having to take it up or harm it.</p>
