— A company that makes kitchen and bathroom cabinets plans to expand its plant in Kinston, creating 334 jobs, officials said Thursday.

MasterBrand Cabinets Inc., a subsidiary of Fortune 500 company Fortune Brands Inc., will invest more than $3.75 million in the plant in the next three years. The Kinston plant already employs more than 200, and the company plans to reconfigure the facility to produce a new kitchen and bath product line.

"Our Kinston facility has so many beneficial attributes that make it ideal for production of this new cabinetry line, including location, a great work force and available capacity," MasterBrand President Greg Stoner said in a statement.

The average annual salary of the new positions will be $25,787, plus benefits, officials said.

MasterBrand, which is based in Jasper, Ind., has qualified for a $200,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, which provides financial assistance to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create jobs. Companies must meet job creation and investment performance standards to obtain the money.
