RALEIGH, N.C. — Triangle Business Journal named the Holding family, the guiding hand behind Raleigh-based First Citizens Bancshares, Inc., as Businessperson of the Year in its Dec. 25 issue.

The Holdings, First Citizens Chairman and CEO Frank Holding Jr. and his sister, Executive Vice President Hope Holding Connell, are the third generation of the family to lead the bank.

In selecting them for the award, TBJ noted how they have positioned the bank to weather the recession and expand assets while protecting cash reserves.

An event in honor of the Holdings was scheduled for Feb. 11 at Brier Creek Country Club.
