OXFORD, N.C. — CertainTeed Roofing, a leading manufacturer of asphalt roofing products, will invest $20 million in an operation in Granville County, officials said Wednesday.

The company plans to build a railroad unloading and storage facility in Oxford, creating 10 jobs during the next three years. The new facility will enable the company to get asphalt from other sources while increasing production of residential asphalt roofing shingles.

The average annual wage for the new jobs will be $63,800, plus benefits. Granville County's average annual wage is $34,112.

CertainTeed already employs 503 people in North Carolina, including 266 roofing employees in Granville County.

The company qualified for a $30,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, which provides financial assistance to attract business projects to the state. Companies receive no money upfront and must meet job and investment targets to obtain grant funds.

CertainTeed Roofing is a subsidiary of CertainTeed Corp., a leading North American manufacturer of interior and exterior building products and a subsidiary of French-based Saint-Gobain, the world’s largest building materials company.
