JEFFERSON, N.C. — Gates Corp. will expand its production of automotive belts and hoses in Ashe County, creating 58 jobs in the next three years, officials said Tuesday.

The company plans to invest $4.6 million in the plant expansion, which will include two robotic cell production lines for synchronous belts used to drive electric power steering generation mechanisms.

The average annual wage for the new jobs will be $24,723, plus benefits. Ashe County's average annual wage is $27,508.

Gates qualified for a $100,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, which provides financial assistance to attract business projects to the state. Companies receive no money upfront and must meet job and investment targets to obtain grant funds.
