WILSON, N.C. — The town has obtained a $375,000 federal grant for downtown development.

The money is part of the 2008 Omnibus Appropriations Act passed by Congress last week and signed Wednesday by President George W. Bush.

City officials haven't decided how to spend the money, but ideas include clearing old tobacco barns to make room for affordable housing and new businesses and converting upper levels of downtown buildings into apartments and condominiums.
