ABERDEEN, N.C. — A passenger in a tractor-trailer was flown to UNC Hospitals Friday morning after the truck was involved in a collision with a Moore County school bus, fire department officials said.

Authorities said Keith Lawrence, the passenger of the tractor-trailer, is in serious condition. The driver, Price Ivory, 40, was charged with careless and reckless driving. The bus driver, Daniel McNeil Jr., 47, drove himself to the hospital.

The wreck happened at about 7:50 a.m. on Roseland Road after the tractor-trailer ran into the bus, which was stopped. The truck's cab dislodged from the frame in the crash.

McNeil, Ivory and the four Pinecrest High School student on board were not seriously injured, although Ivory was taken to the local hospital.

Ivory told officials that he tried to avoid something in the road, lost control of the tractor-trailer and slammed into the bus.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigators have not released any information about the cause of the wreck or potential charges.
