F45 Training Five Points Raleigh is raising money for Australia in an unconventional way -- by donating a dollar for every burpee a member can do in a minute.

RALEIGH, N.C. — What if you could raise money to help with the Australia wildfires and get fit at the same time?

The owners of F45 Training Five Points Raleigh have launched a creative project called Burpees for Bucks that doubles as a fitness regime and fundraiser. On Friday, the business will be donating $1 per burpee completed in a minute after every single class. They’re also allowing members to send in videos of them completing burpees.

"We are from Australia. My husband Ben is from there originally. We have a lot of family in Australia and have been watching the devastating effect of the wildfires from here," said Katie Wright, one of the gym's owners.

Wright and her husband lived in Australia for 9 years, and like many locals, they had been trying to think of a way to help.

The gym has been collecting money for the WIRES Wildlife Rescue, an organization working to support, rehabilitate, and care for the thousands of animals impacted by the wild fires.

“They’re watching their whole world come down in flames,” she said.

Wright said she felt the best way their gym could pitch in would be to raise awareness about the magnitude of the fires, as well as give people the opportunity to help by donating money and doing something fun together.

They’ve already raised more than $1,500.

A generous member had agreed to add to their impact by matching donations up to $1000 total.
