Burlington crash sends three to hospital

Man charged with failing to stop for red light after his vehicle collided with another.

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A crash in Burlington sent three people to the hospital Sunday evening.

Burlington police said the wreck happened at 7:30 in the intersection of South Mebane Street and East Webb Avenue.

Jason Amaro of Burlington was driving a 1996 Ford sport utility vehicle when police said he failed to stop at the intersection and collided with a 1997 Ford sedan driven by Veronica Salas Velasquez of Graham.

Velasquez, a female passenger in the SUV and her 4 year old were taken to Alamance Regional Medical Center. They were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police estimated the damage to the SUV at $3,500. The sedan sustained about $3,000 damage.

Amaro was charged with failure to stop at a red light.
