Burglaries inside the beltline spike
Since January, Raleigh police say they have responded to more than 40 burglaries inside the Interstate 440 Beltline.
Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — Since January, Raleigh police say they have responded to more than 40 burglaries inside the Interstate 440 Beltline.
“I walked into my house and I was like, ‘I got robbed,’” Cyrus Stacey said.
Stacey is among a growing list of Raleigh residents living inside the Beltline reporting burglaries at their homes.
“My computer was gone. They took some cash, a loaded pistol and my gym bag,” Stacey said of the robbery this past Saturday.
Five days later Stacey’s home on Dale Street was broken into again.
“They took like a screwdriver and ripped the whole window out and stole my laptop again. I just bought a new one for work,” Stacey said.
Stacey’s home was among three homes on Dale Street that was broken into.
“We got home and our window on our front porch was busted,” Kelli Pfitzner said. “They attempted to move the latch to the window but couldn’t move the window so there was glass all over.”
Reid Reinhart said suspects went through the window of his home and knocked things over. He doesn’t believe the suspects actually entered his home.
Raleigh police are encouraging neighbors to keep their windows secure and doors locked. However, in the past four months, many burglaries reported involved forced entry.
Despite some arrests, residents believe other potential thieves are out there. One Dale Street resident told WRAL News she changed her Easter weekend plans to remain close to home because of the burglaries.
"My big thing is just getting the word out, talking to people and letting people know because I think without that help, we’re not going to get anywhere,” Stacey said.
