Shawn Burnette lost his home in a house fire on New Year's Eve, but is getting some much needed aid from a coworker.

Burnette received a boost from a GoFundMe page that his coworker, Airryn Wharton, set up for him.

The GoFundMe page hase raised $3,445 as of Wednesday afternoon. For Burnette, it was a huge surprise.

"I knew nothing about it until they told me about it," Burnette said. "That was a big surprise and just took a lot of generosity from people."

On New Year's Eve the fire started inside his house near Cedar Grove in Orange County. Fortunately no one was home.

"Apparently it was a little outlet, just through [that] doorway," Burnette said. "I came home from work around 10:30-10:45 p.m. and I mean it was still smoldering,"

While Burnette, his wife and his friend, who stayed in the house, were fine, eight of his friends' dogs didn't survive.

"It was seven puppies. They were 10 weeks old and the mom," Burnette said. "I watched him walk in there and find here. It was pretty tough,"

The couple and friend are currently staying in a trailer, but the generosity of others is keeping Burnette's spirits up.

"Take in those good moments because you never know," Burnette said. "It might just be you and luckily, like I said, generous people are out there,"

The GoFundMe for Burnette is still accepting donations.
