Warming trend will move in after frigid Monday
Temperatures fell below 35 degrees overnight in Raleigh, approaching 30 degrees in some places and making Monday the coldest morning of the season so far.
Posted — UpdatedWRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said it was the coldest morning of the year since April 3.
The National Weather Service issues the alerts to make people aware of freezing conditions that could harm some plants and crops, Gardner said. Kids and adults also needed to bundle up for their commutes to school and work on Monday.
Despite frigid morning temperatures, Monday will be a brisk, sunny day, with a high in the low 60s. By lunchtime, temperatures will be in the upper 50s.
Starting Tuesday, temperatures will become more mild as a warming pattern sets in.
WRAL meteorologist Peta Sheerwood said the average high temperature for the first week of November is 68 degrees, and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will follow that pattern. All three days will be brisk and bright, with highs in the upper 60s.
It should be a great week to get outdoors for exercise or sports after work.
The next chance of rain comes Friday morning as a cold front pushes into the area, bringing possible showers.
The high on Friday will be very chilly -- 50 degrees in Raleigh -- so it will be time to pull out the winter coats and boots if you haven't already.
Saturday should be even colder but sunny, with a high in the upper 40s.
