Willy Adames hit a game-winning RBI single in the seventh inning lifting the Durham Bulls past the Toledo Mud Hens 5-4 on in front of 10,970 fans on Friday night at the DBAP.

Donned in their Darth Vader inspired uniforms, the Durham Bulls (15-11) took a 2-0 lead over the Toledo Mud Hens (16-10) in the second inning when Justin Williams struck a two-run home run to center field.

In the third, Micah Johnson led off with a triple and scored on a ground out by Jason Coats extending the Bulls lead to 3-0.

Back-to-back doubles in the fourth from Joe McCarthy and Christian Arroyo extended Durham’s lead to 4-0. McCarthy doubled twice and finished 3-for-4, marking his first three-hit game of the season.

In the sixth inning, Ryan Weber’s (ND) night was done after Christin Stewart hit his sixth home run of the year, a two-run shot cutting the Bulls lead to 4-2. Cody Hall was brought on in relief and allowed two runs on two hits and three walks, stranding the bases loaded, but the damage was done as the Mud Hens tied it up 4-4.

Andrew Velazquez singled to begin the seventh and a sac bunt by Johnson moved Velazquez into scoring position. Adames then laced a line drive to left scoring Velazquez and breaking the tie 5-4.

Ian Gibaut (W, 2-0) silenced the Mud Hens, earning his second win of the season, tossing 2.0 scoreless relief innings, fanning three and dropping his ERA to 0.73.

In the ninth, Jaime Schultz (S, 1) allowed a hit to Mikie Mahtook, but stranded him on base with two strikeouts, to close out his first save of the season in front of a raucous crowd.

The Durham Bulls host the Toledo Mud Hens for the third of this four-game series tomorrow night at 6:35 pm. Jose Mujica (3-1, 3.04) is scheduled to start at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
