DURHAM, N.C. — A 'hazmat situation' reported near American Tobacco Campus led to buildings being evacuated.

Fire trucks and at least a dozen first responders could be seen on Blackwell Street and Jackie Robinson.

A leaking sodium hypochlorite pipe in a facility at 410 Blackwell St. caused the evacuation and hazmat teams, according to Durham Deputy Fire Chief Christopher Iannuzzi.

Some buildings were evacuated, and Willard Street was closed between Blackwell and Yancey Streets.

Two people were evaluated by EMS for inhalation issues, but not transported.

The leak has been stopped and the building has been reopened to the public.
