OXFORD, N.C. — Gov. Roy Cooper on Wednesday announced CertainTeed, a manufacturer of roof shingles and building supplies, will bring 37 new jobs to Granville County.

The 122-year-old company is investing $118.8 million to expand its existing facility in Oxford by adding 225,000 square feet of manufacturing space.

The average annual salary for the new positions is $66,930, which is higher than Granville County's overall average annual wage of $45,096. The new jobs have the potential to create an annual payroll impact of more than $2.4 million, officials said.

CertainTeed is a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, one of the largest manufacturing companies in the world.

"CertainTeed's expansion is a great indicator of North Carolina's manufacturing economy," Cooper said. "Companies in our state know the advantages of operating here, including our dedicated, well trained workforce and our great quality of life."

As builders struggle to keep up with the demand for housing and people renovate their homes, there is a need for roof shingles and other materials produced by CertainTeed, including siding, fence, decking, railings, trim, insulation, gypsum wallboard and ceilings.
