Freeze warning issued for Triangle early Monday

RALEIGH, N.C. — Temperatures were in the 30s on Sunday morning, and Monday could be even colder.

A freeze warning is in effect for the Triangle and areas to its north and west, including Wake, Durham, Orange, Chatham, Person, Moore and Halifax counties, among others. A frost advisory was issued for areas south and east of the Triangle, including Cumberland, Johnston, Harnett and Wayne counties. View all weather alerts.

Overnight, temperatures could drop below 35 degrees in the Triangle. The advisories and warnings go into effect at 1 a.m. on Monday and continue until 8 a.m. Kids and adults will need to bundle up for their commutes to school and work.

Like Sunday, Monday will be a brisk, sunny day, with a high in the low 60s.

Starting Tuesday, temperatures will become more mild.

WRAL meteorologist Peta Sheerwood said the average high temperature for the first week of November is 68 degrees, and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will follow that pattern. All three days will be brisk and bright, with highs in the upper 60s.

It should be a great week to get outdoors for exercise or sports after work.

The next chance of rain comes Friday morning as a cold front pushes into the area, bringing possible showers.

The high on Friday will be very chilly -- 50 degrees in Raleigh -- so it will be time to pull out the winter coats and boots.

Saturday should be even colder but sunny, with a high in the upper 40s.
