CARY, N.C. — Damage to a fire hydrant and valve has closed a portion of High House Road near downtown Cary for what officials say could be the entire day on Wednesday.

High House Road will be closed to westbound traffic from W. Chatham Street to Old Apex Road all day, according to the Town of Cary. Eastbound traffic is not impacted.

According to officials, a car hit the fire hydrant overnight, pulling it out of the valve and causing significant damage to the street.

Drivers should use W. Chatham Street to Maynard Road then Old Apex Road to detour. Crews will work to repair a damaged water valve and related street damage though the evening commute.
