RALEIGH, N.C. — Both directions of Interstate 40 will be closed at Aviation Parkway starting Wednesday night and for several nights while crews install a bridge girder.

Starting at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, all east and west lanes will be closed at Exit 285. A short detour will direct drivers up and down the on and off ramps at the Aviation Parkway interchange until the road reopens at 6 a.m. Thursday.

The road will stay open Thursday and Friday nights, then work continues Saturday through Thursday nights from midnight until 6 a.m. the next day.

The work is part of a project to install a new bridge over I-40. The western half of the bridge opened in April, and the eastern half is currently under construction.

Motorists are asked to slow down and pay extra attention as they travel through the work zone.
