A young breast cancer survivor who grew up in Cary was killed last week in a hit-and-run in Chicago.

Sophie Allen, 27, was walking with a friend near Wrigley Field when she was hit.

Allen graduated Raleigh’s Enloe Magnet High School and Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy.

Just 51 days before she was killed, Allen had successfully completed aggressive treatment for breast cancer.

She spoke about her treatment with WRAL's Mikaya Thurmond as the Triangle celebrated 25 years of Race for the Cure.

Allen is survived by her parents, her fiance, a brother and sister and her grandparents. A memorial service is expected to be held later this fall.
