FORT BRAGG, N.C. — A military judge on Friday sentenced a Fort Bragg soldier to life in prison without parole for killing his brother-in-law last year.

Spec. Eric Mead, 26, of Detroit, was convicted Thursday of premeditated murder, attempted premeditated murder and disobeying a lawful order.

Prosecutors said Mead sneaked inside Stephen Harris' house last May and attacked Harris despite being ordered to stay away from the home. Mead's wife was injured in the attack.

In addition to life in prison, Mead was reduced in rank to E-1, was dishonorably discharged and was ordered to forfeit all pay and allowances.
