FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fort Bragg soldier has been detained by Cumberland County authorities to await extradition to Montana, where he is charged in a New Year's Eve slaying.

Ronald Lon Petersen, 19, a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, was arrested Sunday night at Fort Bragg. Investigators in Montana said the soldier is a resident of Big Fork, Mont.

Peterson is charged with deliberate homicide in the Dec. 31 shooting death of Clyde Wilson, 24, in Ferndale, Mont.

Following an anonymous tip, deputies in Lake County, Mont., searched a Ferndale home on Sunday. They then issued an arrest warrant for Peterson based on evidence gathered in the search and follow-up interviews.
