FORT BRAGG, N.C. — The 2nd Brigade Combat Team, part of the 82nd Airborne Division based at Fort Bragg, will deploy to Iraq in May.

Members of the unit, also named the Falcon Brigade, will help train and advise Iraqi security forces.

"The Falcon Brigade is proud for the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing mission to enhance the capabilities of the Iraqi security forces," Col. Timothy McAteer, commander of the 2nd BCT, said in a statement. "We will build on the great lineage and history of this storied brigade and the 82nd Airborne Division."

This will be the 10th deployment for the Falcon Brigade, or one of its units, since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

For the past two years, the 2nd BCT has been a leading unit in the U.S. Global Response Force, ready to deploy at quick notice for emergencies. The unit has served in Haiti and Afghanistan.
