BAILEY, N.C. — As flash flood watches and warnings threaten parts of central North Carolina, a rescue operation happened Saturday afternoon in Nash County when a Boy Scouts troop was stranded at a campground because of high water.

About 130 Scouts who had traveled from Greenville were at Camp Charles when Saturday's rainfall washed out a road that the troop had used to get to their campgrounds.

Nash County emergency workers received a call around 2:30 p.m. about the situation.

Rising waters prompted Nash County authorities to rescue some stranded Boy Scouts.

The Scouts were plucked to safety by canoe while others walked over a small piece of land that hasn't been washed out yet.

No injuries were reported.

A storm system that moved through central North Carolina Friday evening dumped heavy rain on many areas, flooding several roads in the area. WRAL meteorologist Kat Campbell said the storm threat for Saturday has diminished but more severe weather is expected Sunday evening.
