CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A mother said her son's face was slashed with a razor during a fight at his Charlotte middle school.

The eighth grader, Angel, had to get 24 stitches, his mother Marina Pineda said.

Pineda said teachers brought her son to her workplace when they couldn't reach her by phone. Doctors who treated Angel said had one of the cuts came within a 1/2 inch of an artery in his throat.

"I think they wanted to kill him because of the way they cut him," Pineda said. "It broke my heart when I saw him."

Pineda said her son loves attending Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School. She said he does well in class but wanted to stay home on the day of the stabbing.

Pineda said she made her son go to school but now believes he knew the other student wanted to hurt him.

Police have been investigating the incident but did not release much information since a juvenile was involved.
