GASTONIA, N.C. — A 12-year-old boy died after a mishap at a Charlotte-area trampoline park, authorities said.

The boy fell off a climbing wall inside Altitude Trampoline Park in Gastonia shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday, Lowell Police Department confirmed to WCNC-TV.

Audio from a 911 call says the boy hit the ground after falling about 15 feet. The person told the dispatcher the boy was wearing a harness. It's unclear whether the harness was functioning properly.

"A kid fell off the wall and hit the ground," a 911 caller told a dispatcher. "He is not moving."

Another 911 caller told dispatchers she was the boy's mother, according to a WCNC-TV report.

"He's laying on the floor!" the mother frantically told dispatchers.

CNN identified the boy as Matthew Lu.

Gaston County EMS confirmed paramedics took the boy to CaroMont Medical Center in Gastonia with life-threatening injuries. He was then flown to Levine Children's Hospital where he died from his injuries Thursday.
