It's time for the 2nd Annual Bookstore Romance Day this Saturday, August 21st, and we are excited to participate again! There will be virtual events available to the public all weekend, and you won't want to miss some of your favorite authors, including Kit Rocha, Christina Lauren, Scarlett St. Clair, Olivia Waite, and many many more. The entire schedule, along with registration links, can be found on the Bookstore Romance Day website.

To tide you over until the festivities, here are some of our staff's favorite romances:

How did Olivia Dade manage to put everything I ever wanted in a romance into one book? A plus-sized main character who writes geeky fan fiction, falling in love with the gorgeous actor from her favorite show — how could it get better? Add in depth, character development, the struggle of self-perception and how others perceive you. And of course, a dramatic finale at Comic-Con. If you love mistaken identities, friends to lovers, and a smart, confident protagonist, this is definitely one to pick up.

I loved Emily Henry's first book, Beach Read, and was eager to grab People We Meet On Vacation on publication day. Henry has done it again, giving us a very fun romantic story that I could have finished in one day if work and sleep hadn't gotten in the way. Henry has a true gift when it comes to capturing the nuances of evolving relationships, capturing the tension of the unexpected touch, or lingering eye contact. Such a fun read!
Escape the pandemic timeline with this quirky romantic comedy and its lovable, diverse cast of characters. August and Jane's time-slip romance is interspersed with pancakes, drag shows, and decades' worth of clues about Jane's identity. If you liked Red, White and Royal Blue, you'll enjoy this one, too. And just a little suggestion: try making the Su Special at home, it's worth it.
(out September 7th)
The Charm Offensive is a fun romance with lots of humor that's not at the expense of the characters. A reality show handler who believes in love despite ... everything meets his match in the tech-mogul 'prince charming' who is appearing on the show strictly because his publicist promised it would help his image. As Dev convinces Charlie to be open to possibility and walks the would-be prince through practice dates, sparks begin to fly, but not with the princesses competing for Charlie's hand. Pressure mounts from the show's creator to conform to the show's formula - with the future of their careers on the line, will they be willing to step outside the fairy tale (and the reality show) to find something real? I adore both main characters - Dev is a sweetheart with no fashion sense from Raleigh, NC; Charlie is a ball of nerves who has never felt romantic attraction and thinks about spreadsheets to calm himself. And I love that the book centers vulnerability as a prerequisite to true connection. I'll be recommending this one.
