Bookmarked!, the festival for young children and their families, is back for a second year this year with lots of stories, a concert and other events. It will run May 6 to May 22.
It all supports the Lucy Daniels Center's Lucy's Book Club, an outreach program that recommends books for different age levels to help kids recognize, label and explore their feelings. You can find the recommended books at local libraries and on the program's website. The Lucy Daniels Center in Cary is the Triangle's largest non-profit provider of mental health services for young children.

Bookmarked! will feature a variety of public readings at venues across Wake County, including Marbles Kids Museum, the annual Artsplosure festival in downtown Raleigh and the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences. Among the "celebrity readers" are cast members from the N.C. Theatre's "Hello Dolly," a ballerina from the Carolina Ballet, an airline pilot and a chef.

There will be a book fair at Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh May 14 to 15 and May 21 to 22. And at Fletcher Park in Raleigh on May 15, organizers are planning a family concert featuring the band Mommie and appearances from Ira David Wood III and Betsy from Betsy’s Kindergarten Adventures from PBS Kids.
The event again will bring in a top children's book author. This year, it's three-time Caldecott Honor Award winner Molly Bang, who has written and illustrated more than 30 books for children. She'll be doing three public readings for children and families on May 14. They'll be at 10 a.m. at Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh and then at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences. She'll also lead a workshop for parents and teachers on May 15 about how illustrations shape a reader's experience. Registration is required for that. Click here to learn more about Bang's appearances.
There also will be some prize giveaways for families who "like" the Lucy Daniels Facebook page or join the free Lucy's Book Club.

So mark your calendars, check out the websites for more information and stayed tuned for more details on Bookmarked! here on Go Ask Mom.
