RALEIGH, N.C. — WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth said the area will experience some very cold air over the next several days as a high-pressure system from the Arctic moves into central North Carolina.

"We have some mornings that will be problematic," she said, adding that some people south and east of the Triangle could see scattered snow flurries Tuesday morning. "It shouldn't be a big deal."

The overnight low on Tuesday is expected to range around 30 degrees before the bitterly cold air brings a hard freeze for overnight Wednesday.

"The morning commute Tuesday will be pretty quiet, but you want a coat," Wilmoth said.

The high-pressure system will open the door to a hard freeze during the Wednesday overnight hours.

"The only two days to be concerned about are Wednesday and Thursday," Wilmoth said.

Temperatures on Tuesday will be 15 degrees lower than normal, and temperatures on Wednesday will be 20 degrees colder.

High temperatures on Wednesday will top out near 40 degrees.

7-Day Forecast

Warmer weather is expected for the latter part of the week, when temperatures should top out in the 60s, Wilmoth said.
