CARY, N.C. — Bond Brothers Beer Company is planning to open its second location in the coming weeks.

The WRAL Voters' Choice Award winning brewery got some inspiration to make the new location, dubbed Eastside, into a live music venue.

Jay and Jeremy Bond, the namesakes of the brewery, discussed plans for the Eastside location on this week's WRAL Out and About Podcast.

When COVID-19 restrictions shut their taproom down, the brewery decided to first start using their event space to live stream concerts by local artists.

"It went really well. And we had a bunch of sessions at that location," Jay Bond said.

The brewery got creative during the shutdown by revamping its website and adding pick-up and delivery options. They also teamed up with other local breweries to host the Local Brew Drive Through.

"We just sold their beer for them, so we had one central location," Jay Bond said.

The event ran for just over a month and became so popular that the event space was needed to house beer.

"We didn't have that space anymore to do those music sessions," Jeremy Bond said. "We had to kind of shift gears and find a different space."

That's when they thought of the Eastside location, which is under construction.

"We brought them here and started doing performances and that spawned the idea of maybe opening up a music venue here like that," Jeremy Bond said.

While it was never their intention for the Eastside location, it made sense.

"We initially were going to open it as a second tap room and have some different beer to create a different vibe, but COVID, and the live streaming and music just changed our gears," Jeremy Bond said. "We shifted and revamped everything we had in mind."

They built a stage and started doing recording sessions.

"Hopefully in a few weeks, we're going to slowly open our doors, and then when restrictions lessen have performances," Jeremy Bond said.

Bond Brother's flagship location is at 202 E Cedar St. in Cary. The Eastside location will be at 602 E Chatham St.

Bond Brothers Beer Co. is a two-time WRAL Voters' Choice Award winner for best local brewery.
