Bojangles' joins chicken sandwich wars with new menu item

Bojangles' has joined the chicken sandwich wars and is advertising a new hand-breaded chicken sandwich.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Bojangles' has joined the chicken sandwich wars by advertising a new chicken sandwich.

Limited information was available on the sandwich, with Bojangles' simply describing it as a "hand-breaded, crispy, cravable chicken sandwich."

The sandwich will be available in all restaurants soon, Bojangles' announced Monday.

Bojangles' already offers a Cajun filet chicken sandwich, which is served with lettuce, tomato and mayo on a toasted bun. It is unclear what will be different about the new sandwich.

The so-called "chicken sandwich wars" began in 2019 when Popeye's brought back its popular chicken sandwich. People waited in drive-thru lines longer than one hour to taste the sandwich and people debated which chain -- KFC, Wendy's, Chick-fil-A and other restaurants -- served up the best.

Bojangles' recently celebrated its 44th birthday.
