Boil-water order lifted in Wilson County

— Customers served by the Southeast Water District in Wilson County no longer have to boil their water, officials said Thursday.

The boil-water order was issued Tuesday after tests found total coliform bacteria in some water samples.

Coliforms are bacteria that are naturally present in the environment and are generally not harmful themselves, but they are an indicator that other, potentially harmful, bacteria may be present, officials said. Additional water samples have been collected and were being tested to disprove or confirm results.

Follow-up tests found no bacterial contamination in the water, Wilson County Water Director Dale Causey said.

"We apologize for the inconvenience and confusion that we have caused the citizens in this area, but stand strongly committed to ensuring quality and safe water to our customers” Causey said in a statement.
