SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Johnston County Public Utilities released a boil water advisory for customers in the Buffalo Water District.

Western Brogden Water District and Town of Smithfield customers who live south of town may have experienced a water loss today due to a water main break on Buffalo Road.

The water main break caused wide-spread low or no water pressure.

Once water service is restored, any customers who had no water or experienced very low pressure at some point should boil their water for at least the next 24 hours.

Any tap water for human consumption should be boiled vigorously for at least one full minute prior to use, according to officials.

Officials said further notice would be issued when the boil water advisory is no longer in place, and ask customers to visit the website for additional information on boil water advisories.
