HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. — Search and rescue crews have located the bodies of two brothers who went missing earlier this week along the Cape Fear River in Harnett County.

The Harnett County Sheriff's Office said brothers 29-year-old Emilson Ordonez-Vasquez and 25-year-old Edwin Ordonez-Vasquez were fishing and swimming on the Cape Fear River Monday afternoon when they disappeared into the water near the access point in Erwin.

The sheriff's office said a call came in just before 4:00 p.m. for a possible drowning and an assist from EMS. The brothers were with a group of people attempting to cross a section of the river to an island to fish, officials said, but were swept away by the current.

One witness said someone jumped in but wasn’t able to save them.

Search crews found Emilson's body on Monday. On Wednesday, WRAL News learned Edwin's body was also found.

A watercraft from Fort Bragg and a K9 underwater team were being used in the search.
