GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The body of a Wayne County man who had been missing since he jumped into the Neuse River after his young son a week ago was found Wednesday, authorities said.

According to a witness, 5-year-old Braylin Holman fell off a dock while on a March 24 fishing trip in Goldsboro, and his father, 38-year-old Sterling Holman, followed him into the water.

When Holman attempted to save the boy, both went missing in the strong current, according to a 911 call.

"The current pushed the baby away," said the caller. "The daddy jumped in the water behind him."

Multiple search crews responded, including Arr-Mac Water Response, Goldsboro Water Rescue, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Dive Team, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Aviation Unit and Wayne County EMS.
