APEX, N.C. — A missing man's body was found Saturday in Jordan Lake, according to officials.

Officials said 93-year-old Stirling Danskin had been reported missing near the lake before his body was found.

According to officials, Danskin was from Raleigh. He arrived to Jordan Lake on Thursday, and his car was left in the parking lot after the park had closed.

Officials said vehicles left parked overnight isn't unusual, as some people do camp out – so a note was left on his car with information about how to leave the park after hours.

When the note was still there, untouched, the next day, officials raised the alarm and began searching for him.

Searches began on Friday evening, but were cut short due to heavy storms and rain around 1 a.m.

Police checked camera footage to try and identify the car owner and what he was wearing. Raleigh police were contacted to check Danskin's home and get contact information for his family from neighbors.

According to an obituary, his wife Grace Danskin passed away in 2015, after 64 years together.

"She caught his eye at a dance, and they continued to dance happily together for 64 years," said the obituary.

According to the write-up, he enjoyed watching stock car races and spending summer evenings on the porch.

He had three children and multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

WRAL News is working to learn more information about the man, and how long he had been missing.
